A 27-year-old Pakistani man who allegedly tried to sexually assault a 30-year-old woman at the entrance of a building in the center of Thessaloniki has been remanded in custody after pleading guilty.
He was prosecuted for both attempted rape and attempted theft as the accused allegedly attempted to snatch the woman’s mobile phone.
According to GRTimes.gr, during his apology before the 4th regular investigator, the 27-year-old denied the charges.
He said that, previously, he was in a bar where he met with a gay friend. The latter invited him to go to his apartment in the same apartment building where the incident was recorded.
“I was drunk, it was dark. I got confused and hugged her thinking she was my boyfriend. As soon as she started screaming I realised it was a woman and I let go. I apologized to her for my mistake. I am gay.” Following the girl’s complaint, the 27-year-old was located and arrested by police officers.
According to the case file, the Pakistani national in question approached the 30-year-old woman and pushed her, attempting to shut her up. The victim managed to escape and reported the incident to the police.
