Elon Musk: Reminded of his offer to Wikipedia – He gives $1 billion to change its name

The richest man in the world wants to change Wikipedia to Dickipedia - The reasons for their conflict

Newsroom February 18 06:14

Elon Musk has long been at odds with Wikipedia, with the world’s richest man even calling for a boycott against it in late January. Now, Musk has recalled his $1 billion offer to the site to change its name.

In 2023, Elon Musk proposed that Wikipedia give it $1 billion (about €946 million) to change its name to…Dickipedia. Today, the now-close associate of Donald Trump has recalled that his proposal still stands.

Musk’s feud with Wikipedia goes way back, and the latest cause for contention was some changes made to his page on the English version of Wikipedia. There it was written that during his speech at Donald Trump’s inauguration, Musk “extended his right hand, emphatically, at an upward angle, palm down, fingers together. He then repeated the gesture to the crowd behind him.” A gesture that was compared to a “Nazi salute, but he denied any connection,” his page said.

In late December 2024, on X, he had already urged his followers not to donate money to the Wikipedia, which was then in the midst of a fundraising campaign, to protest the left-wing drift of the site, describing it as “Wokepedia.”
