Another incident of violence against a teacher occurred in Crete.
According to information from cretapost, the incident took place last week when a student’s father went to the middle school in Rethymno. After a brief conversation with the teacher in the schoolyard, he verbally and physically attacked him.
At the time of the incident, several students were present at the scene. Following the event, the teacher went to the police and filed a complaint, while the teacher’s union, ELME, stands by his side.
The statement from the ELME Rethymno:
“The Board of ELME Rethymno condemns the assault on a teacher by a parent in a school environment last week. The parent attacked the teacher in the schoolyard, in front of students and other colleagues, using inappropriate language and even physical contact.
Such attacks do not only affect the individuals targeted, but also harm and insult the entire school community, devalue the educational work, and serve as a bad example for the students.
As ELME Rethymno:
We make it clear that we will not tolerate such behaviors from anyone.
We stand by our colleague and will provide all moral, legal, and other support.
We stand by the teachers’ association.
We call on the Parents’ and Guardians’ Association of the specific school to condemn the attack.”
