Scotland’s squad for Nations League playoffs vs. Greece – Surprises & experience in Clarke’s picks

Scotland is gearing up for two massive Nations League playoff clashes against Greece, with a ticket to League A on the line

Newsroom March 11 09:00

Steve Clarke has announced his squad, featuring a mix of seasoned veterans and a couple of exciting fresh faces.

The two legs are set for March 20 at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Greece and March 23 at Hampden Park in Scotland. The Scots, a well-drilled unit under Clarke’s long-term guidance, will be looking to maintain their spot among Europe’s elite.

New Faces & Key Returns

The big headlines from Clarke’s selection? Two young stars receiving their first senior call-ups—Lennon Miller (Motherwell) and James Wilson (Hearts). Clarke explained his decision, saying:
“I felt it was time to reward a few youngsters who have been performing well. I believe they can contribute.”

Meanwhile, Scotland gets a boost with the return of key players who had missed previous squads due to injuries. Clarke singled out Lewis Ferguson and Kieran Tierney as vital pieces for the playoff showdown, saying:
“It’s always great to have top-quality players back. I hope Ferguson and Tierney can help us stay in League A and push towards World Cup qualification.”

Clarke Respects Greece’s Strengths

The Scottish boss also acknowledged the challenge posed by Greece, managed by Ivan Jovanović, praising their defensive solidity and counter-attacking threat:
“We want to stay competitive at the highest level, and to do that, we need to win this tie. Greece is a strong team, they defend well, and they’re deadly on the counter. Any team that wins at Wembley deserves respect.”

Head-to-Head History

Scotland and Greece have met only twice before—in the Euro 1996 qualifiers—both times ending in 1-0 wins for the home team.
