The G7 nations are calling on Russia to accept the ceasefire proposed by the United States, according to the draft of the final communiqué.
Senior diplomats from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States have approved the text, but final approval from foreign ministers is still pending, G7 officials told Reuters.
“The G7 members have urged Russia to respond by accepting a mutually fair ceasefire and implementing it fully,” the draft statement reads, according to the BBC.
At the same time, strong “security mechanisms” are emphasized as necessary to ensure a lasting peace, while Moscow is warned that it will face new sanctions if it fails to comply.
