Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a message of optimism for the course of the Greek economy despite the turbulence caused by the US trade war in their first meeting since his election as President of the Republic.
“All trade wars have losers. I hope that in terms of US-EU relations we can use the next 3 months for a mutually beneficial trade deal because the trade between the two is so big that a disruption would have an impact on the global economy. This economic disruption makes fiscal balance more important. This is the foundation for all economic policies. In any period of turmoil, political and economic stability becomes an issue,” Mitsotakis said.
As he stressed, “we have to be careful and consistent as one does not know the impact on growth rates and the course of fiscal policy.”
“Nevertheless, I remain optimistic, the indications of the economy’s dynamics are all positive. Positive export figures for the two months which confirms that extroversion is a reality and tourism seems to have got off to a very encouraging start.”
