Severe weather swept through Crete, particularly the Heraklion prefecture, on Thursday, April 24, bringing heavy rain and hail to numerous areas.
According to reports from neakriti.gr, conditions quickly worsened in the Messara region of the Municipality of Minoa Pediadia and other locations, with dense hail falling during the midday hours.
A local resident shared with the same news outlet that near Agia Varvara, heading towards Heraklion, the rainfall was so intense that drivers pulled over to the roadside as water rushed by and stones fell onto the road.
Additionally, Creta Live reported that the heavy hail caused significant damage to various crops, including vineyards and olive groves.
The National Meteorological Service has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms in Crete, which will remain in effect until Friday, April 25. The forecast indicates the possibility of localized rain and isolated thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous areas.
