The moments of anguish experienced by a truck driver in the US when the heavy vehicle he was driving was stranded after a bridge accident was released by the Louisville Police Department.
The accident occurred on Sunday when for an unknown reason the truck went off the side of the bridge, causing the driver’s cab to “hang” in the void.
In the 18-minute call with police the driver can be heard saying “can someone help me.”
Police caller Martina Vonner tried to reassure the driver, saying “they’re coming to get you out, you’ll be fine.”
The local fire service rushed to the scene with firefighters initially stabilising the truck with chains before one of the rescuers, tied with a rope, approached the cab to rescue the terrified driver.
Speaking of the successful 30-minute operation the local fire chief said it was “extremely dangerous” confessing that he had only experienced a similar situation once before in his 24-year career.
