Netanyahu: The displacement of Palestinians from Gaza is a condition for the end of the war

The Prime Minister of Israel, in his first press conference in many months, revealed that there are 20 hostages alive

Newsroom May 21 09:09

Israel has a “very organized” plan to achieve its military goals in Gaza, Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized in a press conference, adding that the war in Gaza has “a purpose that is clear and justified.”

In the press conference held on Wednesday, Netanyahu repeated the three goals of the operation, as initially stated: “To defeat Hamas, to bring back all our hostages, and to ensure that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel.”

Among other things, he stressed that implementing Donald Trump’s plan for the removal of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip is a prerequisite for ending the war.

The goals are complementary “and we must achieve them fully,” he further emphasized.

There are 20 confirmed living hostages in Gaza and “up to 38” murdered hostages, he added, promising that “we will bring them all back.”

He also referred to the pressures Israel has faced—pressures from the international community but also from within the country. The Israeli Prime Minister chose to distance himself, instead listing a series of successes of the country against Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran.

“We have not yet said the last word” against the Houthis in Yemen, he added.

He also denied rumors that Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar is alive. “Obviously, we have killed him,” he said.

Regarding Iran, he said it “remains a serious threat to Israel,” and stressed that Israel is “in full coordination with the USA. We are constantly talking with them. We hope it is possible to reach an agreement that will prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.”
