Nine people were injured after an incident on a Ryanair flight that took off from Berlin bound for Milan.
The flight crashed into thunderstorms in southern Germany, causing severe turbulence. Eyewitnesses told Bild that the turbulence was so intense that passengers were thrown to the roof of the aircraft.
“I’ve never been so scared in my life. But at that moment, I thought the plane was going to break in two or flip over!” a passenger told the German newspaper. Several passengers were reportedly out of their seats when the turbulence prevailed, while a mother and her baby were reportedly in the toilet.
Some passengers claimed they were not warned in time to wear seatbelts, according to Bild. The difficult conditions forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Memmingen, in southern Germany.
The passengers reportedly remained on board the aircraft for several hours. Emergency services greeted the passengers after the landing, after the captain of the aircraft requested medical assistance before the emergency landing.
The aircraft was carrying 179 passengers and six crew members. Three of the injured were hospitalized, including a two-year-old child with bruises, a woman with a head injury and a passenger with back pain. Other passengers received first aid at the airport, according to police.
According to the Daily Mail, Ryanair said a replacement flight had been routed to take passengers to Milan and apologized.
