The weather is expected to be generally clear across Greece today with a few occasional clouds in the mainland in the afternoon when local rain and isolated thunderstorms will occur in the mountains.
The temperature will drop slightly, mainly in the east. It will reach 28 degrees Celsius in the Cyclades and 31 to 34 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country and 35 to 36 degrees Celsius in some parts of the western mainland.
From today according to meteorologist Yannis Kalianos, the northern winds are expected to strengthen (up to 8 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea), combined with:
– High temperatures of the previous days,
– Low humidity in the fuel,
– Persistent wind chills reaching 7-8 Beaufort at times for the next nearly 8-10 days,
– Complete absence of rain in the affected areas.
The above create dangerous conditions for the outbreak and spread of fires in several areas of the country.
The areas in need of immediate warning and enhanced preparedness are as follows:
– Eastern Sterea (Fthiotida, Boeotia, Attica), as well as parts of Fokida (from Central Sterea),
– Central and Southern Evia (and to a lesser extent the North),
– Central and Eastern Peloponnese (Arcadia, Corinthia, Argolida, Laconia) and to a lesser extent Messinia (from the Western Peloponnese)
– Cyclades,
– Islands of the North-Eastern and Eastern Aegean,
– Sporades,
– Eastern, Southern and Western Crete.
