Mark Zuckerberg’s vacation in Alepochori and Priscilla Chan’s jog through the village

They arrived in Greece aboard their ultra-luxurious $400 million yacht – See photos from their trip

Newsroom June 12 10:45

Alepochori has been buzzing for the past two days with the arrival of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. His massive yacht, Launchpad, and its accompanying vessel, Wingman, are anchored just off the village’s bay.

The main question on everyone’s mind was whether the man who forever changed social media would make a public appearance — even incognito — perhaps to stroll through the village or dine with friends he’s hosting.

The arrival of the two vessels prompted mobilization from the Coast Guard and the Megara police department, adding weight to the speculation that Zuckerberg, his wife Priscilla Chan, and their guests were indeed on board the 118-meter, $400 million yacht.

According to local leaks, a reservation had been made at the beachside taverna O Angelos in Psatha for a group of forty on Wednesday afternoon.

Sources indicate the reservation was arranged via the Megara police department, with a request that no other patrons be present — further fueling rumors of a Mark Zuckerberg sighting.

On Tuesday afternoon, when a tender boat ferried a group of guests from the yacht to the village’s small port, some locals were struck by one particular man who resembled the billionaire. He wore a cap and was the only one who didn’t disembark, returning instead to the yacht, while the rest of the group wandered off looking for a bar.

That proved difficult, as this seaside destination lacks nightlife options. Even a café owner, alerted by locals to open up, replied that he was already en route to Athens.

So Zuckerberg’s guests ended up buying beers from a kiosk and lounging on the café’s chairs. When asked by locals, they said they were Facebook executives cruising the Greek islands.

A week earlier, both yachts had been spotted in the Ionian Sea, anchored off Preveza, but the billionaire owner was never seen.

On Tuesday night, several crew members came ashore from the 68-meter Wingman, which includes a helipad and a 15-meter boat for short excursions, to take a relaxing walk through the village.

Priscilla Chan’s Jog and the Cancelled Lunch

A short while later, they returned to the yacht via tender, while the executives reboarded a bit later. The luxurious yacht accommodates 36 guests and has a crew of 55.

On Wednesday morning, a local woman spotted an East Asian woman jogging along the coast accompanied by three security guards, followed closely by a tender boat. She guessed it was likely Priscilla Chan, Zuckerberg’s wife, who after her workout returned to the harbor and boarded the tender back to the yacht.

Around 11 a.m., two black vans parked at the harbor and picked up about ten people for a trip to the Acropolis.

Throughout both days, there was a constant stream of taxis and transfers taking people on short excursions. Everyone was awaiting the anticipated 40-person lunch.

However, the owner of O Angelos taverna received a last-minute phone call just before 11 a.m. informing him the lunch was canceled. According to reports, Zuckerberg’s yacht would be departing Alepochori on Thursday.

Such cruises are common among powerful billionaires, serving as a reward for their top staff — and they often participate in them to express appreciation for their team’s hard work.
