The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of directors will hold an extraordinary meeting on Monday following the Israeli attacks on nuclear facilities, diplomats told Reuters and Agence France-Presse.
The meeting will take place at 10:00 local time (11:00 GMT) in Vienna, where the organization is headquartered, it was announced today during a meeting of the IAEA’s governing board, according to diplomatic sources.
Any country represented on the board can call a meeting under its rules. Iran, which does not sit on the board, requested a meeting, and its call was supported by board members Russia, China, and Venezuela, diplomats said.
Earlier today, the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, said he was prepared to travel to Iran to assess the situation after Israel launched widespread military strikes that hit the expanding nuclear complex at Natanz.
