A “positive development” on the purchase of Eurofighter fighter jets was cited by Erdogan in remarks made after the NATO summit. At the same time, he said a decision on the Turkish city in which next year’s summit will be held will be made within the next week and called on Israel and Iran to “listen to my friend Trump.”
Asked about the increase in the defence spending rate and developments with the Eurofighter, he said: “Over the next decade, we will support NATO by providing the necessary share. We have met with Germany and the UK on the Eurofighter. There have been positive developments.”
We have made positive developments
We’ve had positive developments with Germany and Germany in Germany and Germany’s European Union.
On the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, the Turkish president said: “The military escalation between Israel and Iran has endangered our region. We have had strong diplomatic movement from day one. A permanent solution to the problems with our neighbour Iran is possible through diplomacy and negotiations. Our region is full of examples that war leads nowhere. We expect parties to heed the call of my friend Trump. Everyone, including our allies, must do their part to ensure peace in the Middle East. We will do our duty. We met with many leaders during the summit, including Trump, Merts and Macron. We discussed our bilateral relations and the agenda of the summit. We decided to hold the summit in Turkey next year. We will take a decision on the city within the next week.”
