The mother of Kyriaki Griva testified in court about her daughter’s troubled and abusive relationship with the man accused of murdering her. She revealed that he had given Kyriaki a smartwatch that secretly tracked her movements using GPS. After her daughter’s death, they discovered it was connected to his phone.
She described the accused as manipulative, controlling, and financially dependent on Kyriaki, noting he had access to her bank card and tried to isolate and dominate her emotionally. Despite signs of abuse, Kyriaki stayed with him, believing in his potential to change.
The mother explained that her daughter had once reported the accused to the police but later withdrew the complaint under pressure and threats. She said Kyriaki had attempted to rebuild her life and had recently moved into a new home, but the accused continued to stalk and harass her.
Kyriaki’s mother expressed sorrow and disbelief over her daughter’s death, stating that she cannot accept that she was taken by a human hand. The trial was adjourned and is set to resume on July 8th, amid heightened tensions in the courtroom.
