Shocking details of Kyriaki Griva’s final moments outside the Agioi Anargyroi police station were described today in court by her former partner, Stavros Drosias, as the trial for her murder continues. Drosias had accompanied Kyriaki to the police station and witnessed her being fatally stabbed by her then-partner in front of officers.
Kyriaki had gone to the station to seek police protection, but tragically, she was killed before she could file a report.
“Kyriaki told me, ‘Let’s go to the station because I’m scared.’ She didn’t press charges — from what I understood, she didn’t have the money to pay the filing fee. All she asked for was the simplest thing: a police escort back to her house,” Drosias testified.
He went on to describe the horrific scene that unfolded moments later: “I saw Kyriaki freezing, and suddenly she screamed, ‘I’m fading.’ Then she was stabbed — once, twice. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the accused jump on her and keep stabbing. I saw a spurt of blood.”
Beginning his testimony, Drosias explained that he and Kyriaki had been in a relationship for five years before she left him for the accused. “She came to me and said, ‘I’ve met someone else.’ We parted ways amicably. I suppose he promised her things I couldn’t — he promised her marriage. Kyriaki wanted to get married.”
He told the court that the day of the murder was the first time they had met in years. “I went for a coffee with her in Hasia. Afterwards, I drove her home. That’s when, according to her, she saw her former partner — the accused. I didn’t know him. He was on a motorbike. As soon as Kyriaki saw him, she panicked and said, ‘Let’s go.’ I turned the car around, and he left.”
“I asked her if she wanted me to take her to her father. She said, ‘No, I don’t want to upset him.’ So we went to the Agioi Anargyroi police station. At the entrance, a guard stopped us. He told us to go upstairs to the security department. Kyriaki asked to go in alone. I waited outside, but I could hear parts of the conversation. They suggested she file a report. She had filed one before, but he had intimidated her into dropping it. In the end, she didn’t go through with it because they asked her to pay a fee. They said a patrol car would come to escort her, but she had to call it herself.”
Drosias testified that Kyriaki clearly told the officers she feared her ex-partner, and that she was afraid he would harm her. “Kyriaki loved him,” he added quietly.
