An anesthesiologist in a public NHS hospital asked for a €150 bribe from a patient “in order to perform what he is obliged to provide for free,” as announced by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis.
According to reports, the doctor works at the oncology hospital of Agioi Anargyroi.
In his post on X, Georgiadis stated that the anesthesiologist’s act of asking for money from the patient was recorded on video uploaded to social media.
In the video, the doctor appears to say “let’s give €100,” also describing… instructions on how the bribe should be given.
The Health Minister announced that he has instructed the hospital administration to immediately proceed with all legal actions “so that this person is removed from the NHS.”
“I detest the bribe envelope, a practice that exploits human pain and has nothing to do with the values we serve in the NHS. I deeply regret it and apologize to the patient,” he added.
