The weather is changing over the next few days and from showers and coolness the main feature on both Friday and Saturday will be extremely high temperatures.
Today the instability and midday showers will be limited in extent, resulting in clear skies for most of the day. Periods of sunny spells will be long on the islands and westernmost parts. However, at noon and in the afternoon there will be local showers or showers in the mountainous areas of central and northern Greece, especially in Thrace, Macedonia, Thessaly and Sterea.
Showers and thunderstorms yesterday also in Attica
Showers and thunderstorms occurred on Tuesday, August 19, on the mainland, with the most significant rainfall occurring in the Peloponnese, Thrace, Epirus and Attica.
In fact, 15.8 millimeters of rain were recorded in central Athens by Tuesday afternoon, while significant rainfall was observed in central, eastern and southern parts of the prefecture. It is noted that rain of more than 10 mm in the center of Athens (Gazi) has not been recorded since February 3, 2025.
Today’s weather
The weather will be clear with a few clouds on the mainland and the Ionian Sea. At noon and in the afternoon local showers will occur in Central and Eastern Central Greece, Thessaly, Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and possibly thunderstorms in the north.
The temperature in Western Macedonia will range from 15 to 31 degrees Celsius, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 19 to 32, in Thessaly from 19 to 36, in Epirus from 14 to 31, in Central Greece from 19 to 35, in the Peloponnese from 20 to 35, in the Ionian islands from 20 to 32, in the North and East Aegean islands from 20 to 34, in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese from 21 to 32 and in Crete from 20 to 34 degrees Celsius.
Winds will blow from northwestern directions from 3 to 5 Beaufort, in the Eastern and Southeastern Aegean up to 6 Beaufort.
In Attica the weather will be clear with local clouds at noon and in the afternoon. The winds will be variable 2 to 4 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 20 to 33 degrees.
In Thessaloniki the weather will be clear with local clouds until noon. Winds will be variable, 2 to 4 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 19 to 30 degrees.
The weather on Thursday, August 21
Generally clear weather.
Winds will blow in the west from westerly directions from 3 to 4 Beaufort and from the afternoon in the northern Ionian Sea from southerly directions with the same intensity. In the eastern mainland it will be variable 3 to 4 Beaufort and in the Aegean north-northwestern 3 to 5 and in the east up to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise slightly. It will reach 34 to 36 degrees Celsius on the mainland and 37 degrees Celsius in the east, 30 to 33 degrees Celsius on the islands of the eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and southern Crete and up to 34 to 35 degrees Celsius in some places.
The weather on Friday, August 22
In the west and the north a few clouds, partly cloudy, with sporadic rain or rain mainly in the midday – afternoon hours in the northern Ionian Sea, Epirus and western Macedonia. In the rest of the country generally clear weather. In the evening hours in the west there will be occasional fog.
In the evening and in the evening hours there will be some clouds in the west.
Winds will blow in the Ionian Sea, the northern mainland and the northern Aegean Sea south-southwestern 3 to 4 Beaufort, in the remaining areas from westerly directions 4 to 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will rise further in the east and south. In eastern Central Greece and eastern Peloponnese it will locally exceed 38 and possibly reach 40 degrees Celsius.
The weather on Saturday, August 23
Generally clear weather with a few occasional clouds in the central and northern mainland during the midday – afternoon hours. In the morning hours in the west the visibility will be limited and there will be occasional fog.
Winds will blow west northwest 3 to 5 and in the southern Aegean Sea locally 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop slightly.
The weather on Sunday, August 24
In the north a few clouds, partly cloudy, with local rain or rain mainly in the midday – afternoon hours. In the rest of the country, generally clear weather, with occasional clouds and local rain in the midday – afternoon hours on the mainland, mainly in the mountains.
The winds will blow north-northwest 3 to 5 and in the sea locally 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will drop further.
