Lipsi has become the focus of popular German media, following the municipality’s call for holidays offering authentic and sustainable travel experiences.
According to the German travel website Reisereporter, “Lipsi is the perfect place to get lost in dreamy corners. Odysseus probably knew it, as according to mythology, he was enchanted by the nymph Calypso and delayed his journey to Ithaca for several years.”
The travel platform Holidaycheck.de singles out Lipsi among the top Dodecanese destinations that German visitors should not miss, noting golden beaches, local festivals, unique wines, and the opportunity for diving in secluded coves.
At the same time, readers’ interest on social media and online continues to be sparked by a previous feature in Der Spiegel about Greece, which praises the actions of local authorities and Lipsi residents to protect the environment and water resources by saying “no” to organized umbrellas and sunbeds, as well as the construction of swimming pools.
“Our organized efforts to preserve our natural resources are bearing fruit. Travelers respond to our initiatives and visit Lipsi to experience its exoticism, authenticity, and modern tourism services, which aim to preserve rather than alter the natural environment. Our choices seem to resonate with visitors’ perceptions. Despite this year’s ‘ups and downs’ in various regions of the country, Lipsi recorded a record number of visitors in August, with a 5.7% increase compared to last year,” said Lipsi Mayor Fotis Maggos.
In the coming period, a specialized journalistic delegation is expected to visit the island of Calypso, on the initiative of the Municipality, to highlight nature-focused and sustainable tourism.
