A ban on the import of Russian gas into the European Union to be implemented by the end of 2027 was approved today by a majority of member states during a meeting of European energy ministers in Luxembourg.
The measure, which will then be debated in the European Parliament, was proposed in the spring by the European Commission.
By stopping the purchase of Russian gas, the European Union is seeking to close a key funding spigot for Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
