A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with threats he recently made against politicians in a video that was widely shared on the social media platform TikTok, according to the public prosecutor’s office.
The 25-year-old specifically named right-wing politician Geert Wilders in his threatening message.
In the video, he stated, among other things, that he intended to go to Parliament “with an axe” so that “heads would roll,” adding that “maybe it’ll start with Geerthi,” referring to the leader of the conservative Party for Freedom (PVV).
After questioning, the suspect was released pending a decision on whether he will face criminal prosecution.
The incident occurred just days before the Dutch elections on October 29, as Wilders’ party appears to be leading in the polls.
