The number of victims from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines has risen to 40, authorities reported Tuesday afternoon (4/11). The powerful storm brought torrential rains and flooding across central regions, submerging homes and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate.
This is the aftermath in Talisay City, Cebu, where the city appears almost completely washed away.
Although Kalmaegi has weakened since it made landfall early Tuesday morning, it continues to sweep across the Visayas Islands with sustained winds of 130 kph and gusts up to 180 kph, moving toward northern Palawan and the South China Sea.
At least 26 people have lost their lives after Typhoon Kalmaegi struck the central Philippines, causing catastrophic flooding in Cebu and nearby provinces. Floodwaters trapped residents on rooftops and destroyed homes.
Authorities continue to carry out search and rescue operations for survivors. The typhoon has caused widespread flooding and evacuations in the Visayas region, while Vietnam braces for its arrival after suffering deadly floods in recent days.
