An incident involving Hellenic Coast Guard vessels and Turkish fishing boats that had entered Greek Territorial Waters (G.T.W.) in the wider maritime area of Agathonisi and were fishing, in the presence of two Turkish Coast Guard vessels, occurred on the night of Tuesday, November 18.
According to the report, three Coast Guard Patrol Boats rushed to the area to identify the Turkish fishing vessels and issued repeated visual and audible warnings for their immediate departure, which, however, had no effect.
Despite the warnings, one Turkish fishing vessel made dangerous maneuvers, risking a collision with one of the three Coast Guard Patrol Boats.
Subsequently, the crew of the patrol boat fired warning shots, in accordance with the established rules of engagement. Afterwards, the Turkish vessels departed from Greek Territorial Waters.
