Meteorologists have issued a red weather warning, as heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms are expected to affect a large part of the country from today until Friday. The most intense phenomena will occur in the Ionian Sea, Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace and the eastern Aegean, while the weather system “Adel” is expected to bring dangerous conditions and gale-force winds.
Red Warning from EMY – Affected Areas
Issued: Tuesday 25/11/25
A. Rain and storms occurring today in western and northwestern Greece will intensify in the coming hours, especially in:
- Northern Ionian (mainly Corfu area)
- Epirus (mainly coastal areas), where phenomena will be locally very strong.
Wednesday (26/11/25):
Strong rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast:
a. Ionian Islands (Corfu, Diapontia Islands, Paxos) and Epirus
b. From the afternoon in Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos, Aetolia-Acarnania, western and southern Peloponnese
c. From the evening in eastern Macedonia
B. The weather system ADEL will cause very heavy rain and storms on Thursday (27/11/25) and Friday (28/11/25), accompanied by local hailstorms and very strong winds in many areas of western and northern Greece and the eastern Aegean.

Thursday (27/11/25):
Strong rain and storms in:
Ionian Islands, Epirus, western & central mainland, western & southern Peloponnese, central & eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
Friday (28/11/25):
Strong phenomena in:
Central & eastern Macedonia, Thrace, eastern Aegean and early morning hours in western Greece.
The deterioration is expected to peak during the critical 48-hour period of Thursday and Friday, with very high rainfall totals, especially in already affected areas of NW Greece, as well as Eastern Macedonia–Thrace and the eastern Aegean islands.

According to meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas, this system has now officially been classified as dangerous severe weather and received the name Adel, part of the joint Greece–Cyprus–Israel weather naming system, aiming to improve public awareness and safety.
Citizens are urged to closely follow official EMY bulletins and Civil Protection instructions.
Additional Information:
- Storms will affect Attica from Wednesday night through Friday.
- Winds may reach 8 Beaufort.
- Weather improvement expected Saturday in western Greece and Sunday in the rest of the country.
- Authorities are on high alert and advise strict compliance with safety measures.
