The incident occurred near the Farragut West Metro station in downtown Washington, roughly 1.5 km from the White House.
Because of the shooting, the White House was placed on lockdown, with those inside instructed to remain in secure areas until further notice. At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was in Florida.
