Updated: Two National Guard members were shot and killed on Wednesday (26/11) at a location near the White House.

The assailant is in custody, Washington police announced. His motives are unknown, as are the details of his identity.

Unconfirmed reports speak of three victims, one of whom is in critical condition with a head injury.

Videos from the scene have been circulating online.

It is also unclear whether the shooter has been arrested, and the motive remains unknown.

The incident occurred near the Farragut West Metro station in downtown Washington, roughly 1.5 km from the White House.

Because of the shooting, the White House was placed on lockdown, with those inside instructed to remain in secure areas until further notice. At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was in Florida.
