Severe clashes broke out in Heraklion and Chania, where groups of farmers and livestock breeders attacked police forces outside the airports of both major cities in Crete.
Eight police officers were injured, while multiple police vehicles were damaged during the incidents. Authorities have identified the perpetrators, who now face felony charges, including participation in a criminal organization.
The farmers broke through the police barricades, forcing riot units to retreat. They then moved toward Chania Airport, leading to the airport’s temporary closure. During the unrest, they overturned a police patrol car set up at the checkpoint and vandalized a riot police vehicle.
