A new very strong earthquake of 6.7 magnitude, according to even preliminary estimates, was felt in northeastern Japan today, leading to the issuance of an emergency tsunami warning by the Japan Meteorological and Seismological Agency (JMA).
The quake was recorded at 11:44 (local time; 04:44 GMT), a few days after an even more powerful earthquake – 7.5 magnitude – in the same area.
A tsunami with waves at least a metre high is to be expected, according to the JMA’s emergency warning.
