Poland: Two airports temporarily closed due to Russian strikes in Ukraine

Polish fighters started operations and anti-aircraft and ground-based radar reconnaissance systems were put on standby

Newsroom December 27 09:51

The airports of Zesuf and Lublin in southeastern Poland were temporarily closed after Polish Air Force aircraft took off due to Russian strikes in Ukraine, the Polish Aviation Administration reported today on Platform X.

For its part, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces said on its X account that it had taken off fighter jets in response to a possible Russian missile attack on Ukrainian territory.

“Due to the activity of Russian long-range air forces striking Ukrainian territory, the Air Force has launched operations in Polish airspace,” it said.

He noted that Polish fighters launched operations, and anti-aircraft and reconnaissance radar systems from the ground were put on standby.

“These operations are of a preventive nature and are intended to ensure security and protect our airspace, especially in areas adjacent to zones under threat,” the statement added.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces is monitoring the situation, and its forces remain ready to respond.
