Several parents of the victims of the Tempi tragedy reacted negatively to the video released by Maria Karystianou ahead of the third anniversary of the train collision, as reported Friday morning by Pavlos Aslanidis.
“I will say that yesterday we had a memorial in Kaisariani dedicated to the victims of Tempi. The parents who were there and learned about the video were shocked; they did not like it because the images are very harsh,” he said on MEGA.
After noting that he did not know whether Ms. Karystianou had obtained permission for the voices heard in the video, the new president of the Tempi victims’ association added: “When I spoke with my wife last night, she was crying. She saw images she had never seen before.”
“Imagine that yesterday I saw my son’s name engraved on marble and I broke down for the first time — not to see something like this. I think it was a mistake,” Pavlos Aslanidis added.
He also reiterated that “although it is everyone’s right to enter politics, I have said before that the timing (regarding Karystianou’s party) was not the best, since the trials are beginning. If she wanted to do something, she should have done it either before the elections or after the trials are completed. You cannot announce that you are forming a party when you have fought so hard — it’s like abandoning the battle.”
“I forbid you to refer to my brother again — you are a politician”
In the video posted by Maria Karystianou, footage from the accident, audio recordings, archive material, and Karystianou herself appear, declaring that she demands justice and calling for participation in the February 28 rally.
The first public reaction came yesterday, Thursday, from Katerina Voutsina, who in a social media post forbade Ms. Karystianou from referring again to the 57 victims, indirectly demanding that she not include her brother, Giannis Voutsinas, who lost his life in the tragic railway accident.
“The murder of my brother has no place in a political spot or in any reference in your public discourse, as you are a politician,” she explained. She warned that if her request is not respected, she will take legal action against her.
In her post, Ms. Voutsina wrote:
“From now on, @mkaristianou, you are forbidden from referring again to the number 57. The murder of my brother has no place in a political spot or in any reference in your public discourse, as you are a politician. I hope to be heard; otherwise, I will take legal action. Thank you.”
