Government Ready to Act on Price Increases Amid Middle East Conflict

The government’s commitment to intervene in any price hikes or speculative activity resulting from the Middle East war was emphasized by government spokesperson and Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Pavlos Marinakis.

“The government has proven its ability to manage crises. The duration and impact of such events cannot be predicted from the start. In emergency situations, we have consistently ensured that society is not left unprotected,” he said during a briefing with political editors, adding that any measures will remain within the budgetary framework.

“The Prime Minister is in constant communication with the relevant ministers. When a plan is finalized and announcements are necessary, they will be made in a timely manner,” Marinakis continued. He stressed the importance of avoiding panic and uncertainty, noting that the relevant departments are closely monitoring energy prices. “We are here; citizens will not be left unprotected during periods of extraordinary price increases,” he concluded.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis Heads to Cyprus for Trilateral Meeting

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will travel to Cyprus to meet with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Christodoulides and the President of France Emmanuel Macron. Joint statements to the press will follow the meeting.

Ongoing Repatriation of Greeks from the Middle East

Coordinated operations by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continue to repatriate Greeks from areas affected by the Middle East conflict.

Within five days, a total of 1,039 citizens were safely returned from Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Israel, Oman, the UAE, and the Palestinian territories, utilizing aircraft, ground assets, and military planes leased through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These operations are highly complex, due to extensive flight restrictions, constant alerts in conflict zones, and the large number of countries involved. The Ministry’s central service coordinates closely with embassies and consulates on the ground, ensuring full assistance to Greek citizens affected by the situation.

Greece Provides Support to Bulgaria While Maintaining Domestic Security

Greece has deployed resources and personnel to assist Bulgaria, a fellow NATO and EU member state, without compromising its own territorial defense.

Following a decision by the Kysea, a PATRIOT artillery division has been deployed to northern Greece to provide anti-ballistic coverage for Bulgaria. Additionally, two F-16s have been stationed in northern Greece to offer further protection. Two senior Air Force officers are coordinating operations from the Bulgarian Armed Forces Operations Center in Sofia.

Strong Economic Performance in 2025

Greece achieved a 2.1% growth rate in 2025, with significant increases in both investment and exports, despite global geopolitical tensions and trade disruptions from U.S. tariff policies.

  • GDP grew 2.4% in Q4 2025 compared to Q4 2024, outperforming the Eurozone (1.2%) and EU (1.4%).

  • Domestic and foreign investment rose 9%, surpassing €37 billion.

  • Exports of goods and services increased by 1.7%, while imports fell 1.3%, improving the trade balance.

  • Household real spending increased 2%, showing rising disposable income.

  • Employee wages grew faster than firm profitability, ensuring growth benefited workers first and capital second. Compensation for dependent labor rose 6.6%, while gross operating surplus grew 2.6%.

Debt Settlement Progress

Out-of-court debt settlements continued at a high pace in February 2026, with 2,055 cases completed.

  • 605 of these used expanded vulnerability criteria, widening protection for debtors and simplifying repayment.

  • New applications totaled 6,380 in February.

  • Since the Mechanism’s launch, 55,343 arrangements have been finalized, covering initial debts of €17.07 billion.

An agreement was signed between the Civil Aviation Authority and Eurocontrol to provide technical support for Greece’s air navigation system.

“This cooperation will play a key role in implementing the National Action Plan, enhancing the interoperability and resilience of our national air navigation infrastructure, and improving the performance and reliability of the European air navigation network,” stated Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas.
