What’s happening at the “Devil’s Well” in the Limanakia of Vouliagmeni, where on Saturday (28/3) the body of the unfortunate 34-year-old diver who lost his life was recovered, is described by the cave diver – researcher, Antonis Grafas, who participated in the operation with his team.
Speaking on the show “Mega Hour Society”, he referred to the 28-meter-deep underwater tunnel and said it was a “suction cavern” from which it is “impossible” to get out without special equipment.
“It was a difficult operation. There were geomorphological difficulties. It was basically a suction hole, because we have the phenomenon of continuous inflow of water into the cave. There was an unfortunate incident a week ago, and a man went in, unintentionally. He wasn’t supposed to go in, from what we know from his friend. He approached the entrance so close that before he could react, he was somehow pulled in. We luckily found him in the lobby, about 15 feet from the entrance. My team and I, in 2018, reached 145 meters in length. It’s something that has never been done before,”Grafas noted.

And fill in: “Once you get in, it’s very difficult to get out without a rope or a climbing brake of some kind. Without a rope, it’s impossible.”
What’s inside the “Devil’s Well”
According to the experienced diver, “the man has passed through the stenosis, the mouth. Terrifying eddies are created there because the water is strangled, and thousands of tons of water have to pass through, so he can’t get out. His friend did many things to save him. He threw a rope, but he was calling it from the wrong angle, and the boy couldn’t get out of there.”
As noted about the tunnel inside the underwater well: “no one knows where that sucker comes out.”
Finally, regarding the condition in which the unfortunate 34-year-old was found, he noted: “After six days, he had no strokes. He was wearing his mask.”
