Extra-Judicial Mechanism: new record in debt adjustments – 2,879 in March

The number of new application launches, which reached 6,674, was also at a six-month high

Newsroom April 3 04:35

The month of March recorded the most settlements ever achieved through extralegal proceedings, during which 2,879 settlements amounting to €982 million of debts were made. 650 of these were made on the basis of Law 5193/2025, i.e., with the expanded eligibility criteria in terms of the mandatory proposal of arrangement by creditors. The relevant legislative improvements, such as this one, have significantly strengthened the framework of protection of debtors, enabling more of them to proceed with the settlement of their debts.

At the same time, the number of new application initiations reached a six-month high, reaching 6,674. There was also a significant increase in the number of applications submitted, compared to the previous two months, which reached 3,782.

Since the launch of the Mechanism, 58,212 arrangements have been completed to date, corresponding to initial debts of €18.08 billion.

Social protection – Arrangements for the vulnerable and disabled

Particularly encouraging is the participation of economically vulnerable households. In the month of March, 262 arrangements for financially vulnerable debtors were completed, of which 18 were for persons with disabilities (PWD). At the same time, since the beginning of the mechanism, 505 debtors have achieved suspension of enforcement measures, ensuring effective protection of their property and main residence.

Partial Arrangements with Financial Institutions

Bilateral loan arrangements with the 4 largest Servicers (Intrum, Cepal, DoValue, Qquant) continue to show increased momentum. In the month of February 2026, arrangements totalling EUR 254 million were recorded, attributable to 3,641 debtors.

Bankers’ Media

.

A further decline in the banks’ non-performing loan ratio to 3.3% was shown in the latest data (Dec 2025) published by the Bank of Greece. This is the lowest rate since 2002.
