Assaulting the ongoing debate in the Parliament on the rule of law, Maria Karystianou has issued an on camera statement, calling it a “hypocritical process”.

As he says, “the rule of law does not exist in Greece”, blaming the government, the opposition and “primarily” the European Commission, which he describes as a custodian that is not fulfilling its role. He argues that Greece has become “a state of illegality and injustice” and the EU has become “an accomplice to corruption with its own knowledge”, while he speaks of a “regime of immunity and impunity” for politicians who – as he claims – “are neither investigated, nor prosecuted, nor punished”.

At the same time, he questions the content of today’s debate in Parliament, raising issues concerning – as he says – “current and former ministers” of the governments of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras, who are “criminally liable” in relation to the tragedy of Tebon.

He also refers to a surveillance case with Predator, claiming that “political opponents, ministers, judges and journalists were being monitored”, and refers to “laundering” by the leadership of the Supreme Court. In addition, he denounces the management of European funds of the OPEKEPE, claiming that they were directed “to their own”, to the detriment of farmers and the public treasury.

He concludes by noting that with “so many criminally accountable politicians” the discussion “is not about the rule of law, but about the mafia state”, adding that the country has been led into “permanent pathogenesis” with the responsibility – as he says – of “chronically corrupt politicians”.

Karystianou’s statement in detail

“Today in the Greek Parliament another hypocritical debate is taking place on the rule of law which does not exist in Greece with the responsibility and complicity of the government, the opposition and primarily the European Commission which is supposed to be its main guardian.

They have reduced Greece, the birthplace of democracy, to a state of lawlessness and injustice and the EU to an accomplice of corruption, knowingly unwilling to claim the purposes of its founding treaty. All of them are jointly complicit in the shameful for our country regime of despicable immunity and impunity of criminally accountable politicians who are neither investigated, nor prosecuted, nor punished for the crimes they commit against Greek and European citizens.

I wonder why they will speak for the first time today in the Greek Parliament? For the criminally liable current and former ministers of the governments of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras, whom the government and the majority of the opposition have shamelessly washed their hands of their criminal responsibility for the tragedy of Tempi?

For the criminal liabilities of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis which was monitoring with Predator, private spyware, political opponents, ministers, judges, journalists and heads of power institutions and was washed out in the most unethical way by the Supreme Court’s judicial leadership during the term of Klappas – Adilini?

For the criminal accountable of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis who channeled the European funds of the OPEKEPE to their own people, depriving them from the honest farmers, damaging the European and public funds and the primary sector of the country, while at the same time inflating the pockets of their voters?

With so many criminally accountable politicians, and accomplices in their impunity, today’s debate is not about the rule of law, but about the mafia state.

That is where our country has been reduced to by its chronically corrupt politicians, condemning it to perpetual pathogenesis and mortgaging the future of our children.”
