Metro and tram services will remain completely suspended on Friday, May 1, 2026, due to workers’ unions participating in strike actions for International Workers’ Day.
Specifically, Lines 1 (ISAP), 2 and 3 of the Metro, as well as the Tram network, will not operate from the start until the end of the daily schedule.
In their announcement, STASY workers’ unions stated:
“We honour Labour Day and announce our participation in the 24-hour nationwide strike (from the start of service on Friday morning until the end of operations).”
How buses and trolleybuses will run
Buses and trolleybuses will operate between 09:00 and 21:00 on Friday, May 1, 2026.
Transport workers are also joining the strike actions, with work stoppages from the beginning of service until 09:00 in the morning, and again from 21:00 until the end of service (00:00).
Suburban bus routes operated by the Attica Transport Consortium are expected to run normally.
Train services
On May 1, 2026, no train services will operate across the entire rail network, including suburban rail lines, as railway workers participate in the nationwide strike declared by the GSEE.
Hellenic Train also announced that on Thursday, April 30, the following late-night services will be replaced by buses:
- 2534 (Athens–Chalcis) departing 22:28, between Afidnes and Chalcis (no stops at Dilesi and Agios Georgios)
- 2539 departing 00:00, Chalcis–Oinoi
- 1239 departing 23:32, Airport–Tavros (stops at Koropi, Kantza, Plakentias, Nerantziotissa and Athens)
- 2302 (21:14) and 2304 (22:14), Megara–Kiato (no stop at Zevgolatio)
Ferries tied up in ports
The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) has announced a 24-hour nationwide strike across all categories of vessels.
The strike will begin at 00:01 on Friday and last until midnight, leaving ferries docked in ports across the country.
Seafarers are demanding collective labour agreements, upgrades in maritime education, and protection of retirees in the sector.
Passengers with travel plans—especially to the islands—are advised to contact ferry companies and ticket agencies for possible changes or rescheduling.
