Authorities are continuing their investigation into the death of a 10-year-old boy who was found on Wednesday morning (27/5) in an irrigation canal in Herakleia, Serres.
According to reports, the child was playing in the settlement when, under unclear circumstances, he ended up in the canal. So far, there are no indications of criminal activity; however, the investigation by the Hellenic Police is ongoing.
At the same time, the boy’s mother has been arrested for exposing a minor to danger. According to the same information, a 43-year-old woman has also been arrested in connection with electricity theft.
This concerns, according to local residents’ complaints, the owner of a house who allegedly stole electricity by running a cable through water. It is being examined whether the child may have been electrocuted. This scenario remains under investigation and will be assessed as part of the autopsy.
The child was found unconscious at around 11:45 in the irrigation canal. Police forces arrived at the scene, and nine firefighters with three vehicles also took part in the operation.
The 10-year-old was taken to the Health Center of Herakleia, where his death was confirmed.
