Greek Christina Kitsos took office as mayor of Geneva, at a special ceremony held in the Swiss city on Thursday (3/6).
The Greek Embassy in Switzerland congratulated the new mayor, wishing her every success in her term of office. Specifically, in a post, the embassy said: “Warm congratulations to the new mayor of Geneva, expatriate Mrs. Christina Kitsos, who took office in a beautiful Proclamation Ceremony, in Geneva, on June 3, 2026”, while also posting photos.
Christina Kitsos, a member of the Swiss Socialist Party, was born in 1981 in La Chaux-de-Fonds and holds Greek and Swiss citizenship. Her parents emigrated to Switzerland in 1972 and her family roots are linked to Thessaloniki, where her ancestors settled after being uprooted from Asia Minor.
She studied philosophy, French literature, communication and journalism at the Universities of Nessatel and Sorbonne, and later obtained an MBA from the University of Geneva. Prior to her involvement in politics, she worked in education, communication and public administration.
