The contradictions in the statements of the confessed perpetrator were the first crucial element that led police investigators to focus their attention on the “Skopjan” in relation to the murder of Stavroula Leventaki.
From the date of their last meeting and his movements on the day of the disappearance, to his claims about the victim’s character and daily life, his answers showed significant discrepancies both between his own statements and in comparison with testimonies and evidence already collected by the authorities.
Statements from relatives, friends, and witnesses, combined with findings from the investigation, successively dismantled key claims made by the accused, revealing a pattern of inaccuracies that strengthened investigators’ suspicions and contributed decisively to solving the case. The case file documents in detail the contradictions that exposed the perpetrator and led to the revelation of the crime.

Specifically, when police asked him when he last saw Stavroula, he replied:
“I saw her on the day she is considered to have disappeared, 29-05-2026. She came to my house on her own. She came around 16:45 and stayed for two to three minutes. Definitely not more than three minutes… She was holding two plastic bags, I don’t know what was inside them, they were colored, not transparent, and a small disposable transparent bag that contained 4–6 eggs. Later I learned from her brother that an Albanian man who does various jobs for her had given them to her.”
In the video, Stavroula is seen with bags in her hands going to the Skopjan’s house on May 30.
During his supplementary examination two days later, when asked:
“Is there a possibility that Stavroula visited you on 30/05 and not on 29/05? How are you sure about the date?”
He replied:
“I remember it because I also mentioned it to my wife on the evening of 29-05-2026, when we spoke on the phone, that Stavroula had come and checked the house. I also told the same thing to Stavroula’s brother, Giannis, when he called me around 3 or 4 June asking whether I had seen his sister. He told me she had disappeared, and I told him that on 29-05 she had come to see the house. He replied, ‘Will you demolish the walls? What can you do with a house?’”
However, Stavroula’s brother stated that his sister left home on 30 May and not 29 May:
“…on 30-05-2026 and not 29-05-2026 as I initially stated, my sister left her home, as earlier that day, around 14:00, she had passed through the Varypetro area to pay a worker and since then she disappeared and also switched off her mobile phone.”
The claim regarding the time of Stavroula’s disappearance is not confirmed only by her brother’s testimony but also by the sworn statement of a man from Albania.

As the witness stated:
“On 30/05 she called me once in the afternoon, at 13:07 according to my phone, but I didn’t hear it… When I saw the call I called her back… She also asked me if I could bring her five eggs, not more… I went home, took eggs, about eight to ten, and went to her house, Stavroula’s parental home… I gave her the eggs, I remember she literally said ‘Thank you, you shouldn’t have brought so many’, meaning I brought more eggs than she asked for,” confirming that the missing woman was holding a bag with eggs, as the accused also claimed.
Another witness also stated that:
“On 29-05-2026 at about 13:47 she called me saying she was coming to where I work so we could talk. I told her of course to come… At 14:16 that day she called me again… Shortly after she arrived, greeted me, I hugged her, and she sat at a table to eat. At 16:10 on 29-05-2026 she sent me a message saying ‘All good’, likely after finishing her meal.”
Beyond the day of disappearance, the perpetrator’s statements also contained contradictions regarding what he did after Stavroula allegedly left his house.
When asked: “Do you remember what you did after Stavroula left your house?”, he replied:
“Yes, I remember very well. I had no other arranged work and stayed at home the rest of the day. I showered and relaxed. I did not go out for the rest of the day. I did the same yesterday as well… I stayed at home and did not leave.”
Two days later, on 16 June, he “remembered” that he actually did go out. Specifically, when asked: “Did you leave the house again? Did anyone visit you?”, he replied:
“No one visited me. Around 19:30–20:00 I went out with the blue van and went to F., where I keep my chickens.”
In the following photos, the suspect’s blue van is seen on 30/05 heading toward the Mournies area.
And that was not all. In his statement on 14 June he noted:
“Stavroula wanted to control everything related to the house…”
In contrast, a witness stated about Stavroula:
“She was not a controlling person at all…”
Photos from inside the house where Stavroula was murdered show that the perpetrator attempted to erase evidence by cleaning the apartment with mops and detergents. Authorities nevertheless managed to detect traces of blood using “blue light”.
