Mars has released the findings of its Pet-Friendly Advantage (PFA) report to mark Bring Your Dog to Work Day. The survey, conducted by Censuswide among 16,000 employees across 16 European countries, including Greece, explores attitudes towards and expectations of pet-friendly workplaces.
The findings highlight pet-friendly policies as an important factor in boosting employee morale, shaping a modern workplace culture, and attracting new talent.
The report confirms the increasingly significant role pets play in creating a positive workplace experience. Across Europe:
- 36% of employees say they place greater value on pet-friendly policies than on traditional workplace benefits.
- For 71% of employees, the ability to bring pets to the office could influence their choice of employer, while those who would be more likely to get a pet if their employer offered more supportive pet-friendly policies see such measures as particularly important.
- 81% associate the presence of pets with a more enjoyable and relaxed working environment.
Greek employees not only reflect the broader European trend towards pet-friendly workplaces but, in some areas, appear to be even stronger advocates of such policies:
- Nearly two-thirds of Greeks (64%) say they would seriously consider changing jobs if it meant being able to bring their pet to work, significantly above the European average of 55%.
- In line with the wider European trend, 73% of employees without a pet say that pet-friendly policies would encourage them to get one in the future.
- 87% believe that the presence of pets contributes to a calmer working environment, while 83% say it helps reduce stress levels throughout the day.
- 77% consider it important for employers to clearly communicate pet-friendly policies in job advertisements.
In Greece, younger generations are particularly likely to associate these practices with a progressive workplace culture. Among Generation Z employees (aged 18–24), 38.1% view such policies as a tangible demonstration of an employer’s concern for employees’ quality of life, while 34.9% associate them with an attractive working environment. Meanwhile, among those aged 25–34, 24.3% say that pet-friendly policies would be a deciding factor when choosing their next employer.
“The findings of this latest report confirm that pet-friendly policies are no longer viewed as a secondary workplace benefit but as a key factor influencing employees’ decisions. On the occasion of Bring Your Dog to Work Day—an initiative that reflects our philosophy—at Mars, we believe that the bond between people and pets should not be confined to a single day each year, but should form part of a modern, inclusive and supportive workplace culture. With our continued commitment to creating a better world for pets, we believe that initiatives such as these enhance the overall employee experience,” said Sara Giordano, Market Director of Mars Pet Nutrition for Greece, the Balkans and Israel.
