Four foreign tourists experienced a frightening ordeal on Tuesday afternoon (June 30) in Lefkada after becoming stranded at sea while paddleboarding on stand-up paddleboards (SUPs).
The Lefkada Port Authority was immediately alerted that the four Bulgarian nationals were unable to return to shore and had become trapped between the popular beaches of Agios Nikitas and Kathisma because of adverse weather conditions and strong winds in the area.
A rescue operation was launched immediately, with a Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boat and the passenger tourist vessel Agios Nikitas dispatched to the scene. The tourist boat successfully located the four paddleboarders in time and safely rescued them from the water.
The rescued tourists were transported to the port of Agios Nikitas, bringing their ordeal to a safe end. All four were reported to be in good health.
