Two people were injured in separate knife attacks in New York, carried out a short time after one another, by a man who shouted “Allahu Akbar”, and who has been taken into custody, according to the head of the city’s police department, who spoke of a hate crime.
The victims of the two attacks in Manhattan are men, “of Asian descent” and “Jewish” respectively, Jessica Tisch clarified, adding that they were taken to a hospital and that their lives are not considered to be in “danger.”
The New York Police Department (NYPD) arrested the suspect, who, according to Ms. Tisch, is named Raul Morales and is 51 years old.
The investigation “is ongoing” and “according to the victims and witnesses, Morales shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ during both attacks.”
