Greek authorities are trying to piece together every aspect of the case surrounding the death of the 41-year-old EKAB paramedic in Ano Syros, with the evidence gathered so far pointing toward an attempted robbery.

According to sources, investigators are closely examining a burglary that took place at the couple’s home approximately 10 days before the incident involving the 41-year-old woman.

At the time, the man reported that one or more unknown individuals had broken into the house, ransacked it, and left without stealing any money because the cash had been secured inside a safe.

When that burglary occurred, the couple had not yet installed security cameras at the property. As a result, police had no visual evidence identifying the perpetrator or perpetrators.

Investigators collected fingerprints and DNA from the scene and sent them for forensic analysis. Authorities are now examining whether any of the fingerprints belong to the 41-year-old woman, in other words, whether she may have been involved in the reported burglary.

Regarding the events of Thursday, July 23, investigators are convinced that the incident was an attempted robbery, as they have so far found no evidence pointing in another direction. However, they are awaiting the results from the lifting of telephone privacy restrictions in order to determine whether there had been any communication or messages exchanged between the two sides before the incident.

Woman died from a single stab wound

According to the forensic pathologist who examined the victim’s body, the 41-year-old died from a single stab wound to the chest.

In surveillance footage published yesterday by protothema.gr, the crucial minutes leading up to the fatal incident are captured. The recording begins at 4:40 p.m. on July 23.

Initially, the man and the woman enter the house, and a few minutes later the 41-year-old appears.

Her appearance is distinctive. She is wearing a black shirt, black trousers with two gray stripes on each leg, and black shoes with white soles. She has a backpack on her back, is wearing blue disposable surgical gloves, while her head is covered by either a hood or scarf and her eyes are concealed behind dark sunglasses.

The 41-year-old walks up the stairs and approaches the entrance. She remains outside the front door for about 20 seconds and, according to the case file, appears to be listening to what is happening inside the house.

She then rings the doorbell with her left hand and places the backpack she is carrying in a corner of the balcony. Up to that point, she has been keeping her right hand hidden inside a black plastic bag. She is then seen holding an object resembling a knife, partially wrapped in what appears to be a white towel, with a silver blade visible.

At 5:02:53 p.m., the front door opens.

The 41-year-old forcefully enters the house, and from that moment the events unfold within seconds. The recording captures shouting and the screams of a woman.

According to statements given by the couple, the 41-year-old attacked the woman with a knife. The woman’s partner then grabbed another knife from the kitchen, stabbed the 41-year-old once, and subsequently chased her.

Seven seconds later, at 5:03:00 p.m., the 41-year-old reappears on camera. She exits the house, picks up the backpack she had left outside the entrance, and begins descending the stairs quickly.

At 5:03:03 p.m., three seconds later, the 40-year-old man appears in the doorway.

This time, he exits the house wearing only black underwear. He is carrying a wooden chair and, according to the case file, is holding an object resembling a knife in his right hand.

The 40-year-old shouts something that cannot be understood from the recording and throws the chair toward the 41-year-old as she runs down the stairs. He then immediately starts chasing her.

From that point onward, investigators have no visual record of what happened next. According to witness testimony, the man threw a flowerpot at the woman before eventually restraining her, while his partner was calling for help.
