4.3R quake 55 km east of Athens

The earthquake was felt in the Greek capital.

An earth tremor measuring 4.3 points on the Richter scale was recorded at 12:46 on Friday.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the epicentre was located 5 kilometres east of Halkida and 54 kilometres east of Athens.

“This is an area of ​​high seismic activity that occasionally gives earthquakes of such magnitude,” Geology professor Efthymios Lekkas told protothema.gr.

A second earthquake occurred an hour later, at 13:47 measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was again located in the area of Halkida.

Both earthquakes were felt in the Greek capital.
