An earth tremor measuring 4.3 points on the Richter scale was recorded at 12:46 on Friday.
According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the epicentre was located 5 kilometres east of Halkida and 54 kilometres east of Athens.
“This is an area of high seismic activity that occasionally gives earthquakes of such magnitude,” Geology professor Efthymios Lekkas told protothema.gr.
A second earthquake occurred an hour later, at 13:47 measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was again located in the area of Halkida.
Both earthquakes were felt in the Greek capital.
