A five-year-old child died when the boat it was on board capsized and sank north of Lesvos on Wednesday.
According to initial information, the child died from hypothermia despite the efforts of the rescue team. 46 more persons that were in the same boat were rescued while the number of missing is still unknown.
At a separate incident a woman died from hypothermia while trying to reach the Greek territory.
Very low temperatures prevail on Wednesday on Lesvos while frost has covered the northern part of the island. But, despite the bad weather 1,028 migrants arrived on Lesvos on Tuesday.
Police said that from Wednesday dawn until 12:00 about 1,000 persons, including many children arrived on Lesvos.
