Idomeni: Drugs, prostitution and human trafficking

An abandoned train wagon and a room of a building which is under occupation have been turned into makeshift brothels

Newsroom May 17 09:59

Crime groups are taking advantage of the defenseless refugees who are stuck in Idomeni, northern Greece.

Human trafficking, selling illegal cigarettes and drug dealing were up to now the most common offenses, but now prostitution has been added, too, according to Eleftheros Typos newspaper.

Moroccan and Tunisian groups sell drugs, Syrians sell goods and Afghans and Pakistanis are engaged in human trafficking.

However, Moroccans and Iraqis are now taking advantage of the women who are staying alone at the refugee camp, because either they have lost their husband, or their husband has managed to reach other European countries, before borders’ sealing.

According to reliable sources, an abandoned train wagon and a room of a building which is under occupation have been turned into makeshift brothels. The members of crime groups are charging the customers 5-10 euros and they give very few money to the women, who cannot make ends meet because they have spent their money, and are forced to prostitute themselves.
