Syrian refugee abusing boy in Chios hotspot might have ties with ISIS (video-photo)

Child handed over to NGO

Newsroom December 14 12:09

The release of the disturbing video footage of a 31-year-old Syrian refugee tormenting a young boy in the showers at the Souda refugee camp in Chios, who was allegedly his son, has led to his arrest, while Greek police are now investigating the possibility of the man having ties to terrorist groups in Syria. The young boy was taken from his custody, while authorities are also examining the prospect of the suspect actually having kidnapped the child from a Syrian family and using the video to blackmail them. He has argued his wife is in Turkey with their other child, claims which are being looked into by the UN services in Chios. The Greek anti-terrorist unit has photos of the arrested man, with information pointing to possible links with ISIS. The Chios prosecutor has ordered the custody of the child be given to an NGO operating in Chios.
