Australia: Recruits 20 members of nursing personnel from Greece

They will work in an institution for elderly expats in Melbourne

The institution for the elderly Greeks in Melbourne “Care”, with the federal government of Australia, have signed three year term agreement of hiring 20 members of nursing personnel from Greece.

The president of “Care”, Mr. Michael Zafiropoulos said at the Greek state radio program station SBS that the agreement was signed after two years of persistent efforts, while involving people who are in Greece or in Australia on student or other temporary visa.

Featured groundbreaking, adding that other organization in the field of health services or care for the elderly has not entered into such an agreement.

He added that there are no qualified people in Australia of Greek origin who want to work in aged care. Those engaged in “Care” will have the opportunity to migrate to Australia for four years and then applying for permanent establishment.

“The problem of recruiting qualified staff familiar with the Greek language is very old one and so with bringing 20 people every year we are not solving the problem but at least we are improving it” he said, and added that if after the expiry of three years there is still a need, the agreement will be extended.

The Foundation “Care” employs 560 people and serves currently 400 inmates on site, while providing daily home care services to 2,000 seniors.
