The great victory of hitherto Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan for the presidency, with almost 52% from the first round, changes the outlook on who will “replace” him as PM of the country.
The results which gives Erdogan extraordinary power puts him in a strong position to “choose” who will succeed him as Prime Minister. Although it is officially refuted that current President of Turkey Abdullah Gul is among the names suggested, analysts do not preclude such an option.
Gul’s name returned as the party of the newly elected president needs a strong personality who will lead the next election, rather than a “shadow” of Erdogan,.
Gul’s official term expires on August 28th and he is a favorite for the position.
Gul even made statements saying his goal is to return to active politics after leaving office, also giving rise to scenarios.
