A tragedy that the human mind can’t easily comprehend, took place today on the island of Lefkada, in the village of Karia. Three people died from fumes in a tsipouro distillery.
It all happened during the time when the drink was being distilled.
Three unlucky men, aged 55, 57 and 62, reportedly tried to lift the lid off a distillery tank in the basement of the building.
When the first man tried to enter the tank, he inhaled poisonous gases accumulated therein. He was followed by the second man who also fainted, trying to help his friend, while the third man who tried to pull out the other two also had the same fate.
Neighbors who saw that something bad was happening alerted Fire and Ambulance EMTs. The son of one of the victims escaped the same fate as he tried to provide first aid to the unlucky men.
