Two bodybuilding fanatics – 26-year-old Constantinos Sgouros and 25-year-old Yiannis Kommatis – were found dead on Tuesday in a ravine in Kalamata in the Peloponnese. It is reported that a botched steroid deal led to their shooting for which two 19-year-old men stand accused.

The first suspect was arrested shortly after the bodies were found. He admitted that he was at the scene of the crime but claimed that another man, also aged 19, had shot the two victims in the back with a hunting rifle. The young man was interrogated until late last night and the weapon used to kill the men was found.It was a rifle that belonged to the mother of one of the assailants.

Early on Thursday morning, the second man involved in the murder, arrived at the police station with his legal counsel.

A coroner said that the two victims had been tortured prior to being killed and were forced to fall to their knees. The bodies of both Sgouros and Kommatis had bullet wounds in their backs, according to police sources, indicating that they were shot at close range.

Both suspects for the double homicide will face the prosecutor on Thursday when the police are also expected to give more details concerning the murder.

It is believed that the motive for the crime was a promise by Sgouros to supply steroids to the man that he had never delivered even though both of them had placed an 800-euro downpayment. Sources state that they constantly argued over this matter, even publicly at the gym. Sgouros was a champion bodybuilder and successful at various competitions. Photographs feature a swastika tattoo on his body.

Kommatis, a professional soldier and bodybuilder, had gone on holidays to the isle of Samos and had returned to Messinia after being asked by Sgouros to be present with him at a meeting with the two men.
