Greek authorities on confirmed the death of a 49-year-old man and serious injury to his 19-year-old son after floods swept their car away in the Municipality of Oreokastro, a suburb of Thessaloniki. The Fire Department received an emergency call at 11.45 p.m. on Sunday when the rescue mission began, but they were unable to rescue one of the two men.
Eight firemen with four fire engines rushed to the area. The man was rushed to hospital where his death was confirmed.
The fire service of the area had received a total of 85 emergency calls due to the heavy rainfall in the Municipalities of Pella, Kilkis and Thessaloniki.
